Education

If you're moving to Spain with children, naturally one of your first areas of research will be schools in the local area. In this section we've provided information on schools in Javea and the Costa Blanca.

In Spain the educational system is organised as follows:

Pre-school education	ages 0 – 6
Primary education	ages 6 – 12
Secondary education (obligatory) – E.S.O.	ages 12-16, if no year has to be repeated
Bachillerato (Spanish Baccalaureate) – optional	ages 17 – 18, if no year has to be repeated

Usually children are assigned to the school nearest to their official address of residency, or sometimes the one closest to where their parents work. As long as there are free spaces left you are usually also allowed to choose a different school but this might not be the case if your children start school in the middle of the school year. Please bear in mind that you will not be allowed to enroll your children in school until you have bought or rented a property and are officially registered in Jávea.

There are a few private British and International schools in Jávea. Their terms and conditions of admittance may be different.
