Fiestas in Javea - Fogueres de Sant Joan 75th Anniversary - June 2024
Get ready to celebrate the Fogueres de Sant Joan de Xàbia!
Known locally as San Juan, this fiesta is the most significant and loudest fiesta of the year! This year there will be extra special celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary. The two-week fiesta includes religious ceremonies, presentations and offerings, float parades, music concerts, fire-jumping, the burning of the Fogueres, and spectacular musical fireworks displays.
Dedicated to fire, this festival includes events such as the proclamation (The Pregón), jumping over bonfires, parades and processions to the different areas of Javea, and the main event on June 24, the feast day of Saint John.
Fogueres (Hogueras in castellano) - What are they? What are they made of?
Beautiful and elaborate effigies, known as bonfires (Fogueres) are constructed using wood, cardboard, mud, paintings, and, in modern times, cork and polyurethane as well.
Mascletà - What is it?
A pyrotechnic spectacle of firecracker detonation, the mascletà is a fireworks display like no other, which must be experienced to be understood. We have included a YouTube video below of last years mascletà in Javea's main square Plaza de la Constitución, taken by "Javea.com"
La Quintà - Who are they?
At the heart of the Fogueres de Sant Joan celebration is La Quintà, A group of young people who celebrate becoming adults throughout the year.
Peñas - Who are they?
If La Quintà are the heart, the Peñas are the soul of the fiesta. Groups of friends with the main goal of enjoying the celebrations together. A Peña can range in size from just a few close friends to an entire street of neighbours, who may take over a vacant unit or garage as a communal base for the duration of the fiesta.

June 7 - Children’s Proclamation
21:00 - Procession of the Junior Commission and Children’s Court of Honour - from the Plaza de la Iglesia to the Plaza de la Constitución
21.30 - Presentation of the Court of Honour, Ladies and Queens in the Plaza de la Constitución.
June 8 - Proclamation of the Queen and Quintà 2024
10:00 - XXVII Fogueres School Chess Tournament for schoolchildren at the Fogueres Commission Casal in Plaza de la Constitución, organised by the Club d’Escacs de Xàbia.
21:30 - Quintà Parade 2024 'A CABASSAES' from the Plaza de la Iglesia to the Plaza de la Constitución.
22:00 - Proclamation of the Court of Honor, Ladies and Queen in the Plaza de la Constitución. Followed by the Matrix orchestra until 05:00.
June 9
09:30 - XX Open table tennis at the Palau d'esports, Avda dels Furs, organised by the Xàbia Table Tennis Club.
11:00 - Pilota Valenciana game in the Trinquet de Xàbia (separate program).
20:30 - Procession ‘75th anniversary’ from the Plaza de la Iglesia to the Plaza de la Constitución.
21:00 - Commemorative act of the 75th anniversary of Fogueres de Sant Joan with the Presentation of the presidents and queens of these 75 years in the Plaza de la Constitución.
June 13 - Day of the Proclamation/Dia del Pregón
14:00 - Official opening of the ‘Penyes Santjoaneres’.
20:00 - Parade of the Court of Honor, Ladies and Queens from the Plaza de la Marina Alta to the Plaza de la Iglesia. Itinerary: Plaza Marina Alta, Príncipe de Asturias, Oms, Nou, Sant Vicent, Sant Joaquim, Virgen de la Merced, Foguerer, Ramón Llidó, Tarongers, Groc de Sala, Ramón Llidó, Foguerer, Ramón Llidó, Tarongers, Groc de Sala, Ramón Llidó, Foguerer, Ronda Sur, Arquitecto Urteaga, Thiviers, Avenida Juan Carlos I, Cervantes, Avenida Alicante, Ronda Norte, Plaza Celestino Pons and Plaza Iglesia.
21:30 - Opening ceremony of the fiestas by the Queens and the Municipal Authorities in the Plaza de la Iglesia.
22:30 - Sopar de cabasset (Communal dinner) in the Plaza de la Constitución for the clubs and the general public. The Fogueres Commission will offer drinks.
00:00 - The Queens, quintas, peñas and local people in general, accompanied by the band, will sing to the images of San Juan. Followed by, 'Despiporre' discomóvil in the Plaza de la Constitución until 03:00.
June 14
18:00 - Festival parade to visit Javea areas of Thiviers, Freginal, Puerto and Arenal.
22:30 - Concert Night in the Plaza de la Constitución. “Arsènic” will be playing the final farewell concert, followed by “Xavi Sarrià”, and then finish with the group “The Tyets” and “DJ Cate” until 04:00.
June 15 - Day of Quintas
08:00 - Despertà (wake up), with bangers and rockets, through the streets of the Javea Old Town by the Quintà’ Molta Festa i Poc Trellat’ celebrating their 25th anniversary.
10:00 - BBQ lunch is offered by the Fogueres Commission in the bullfighting arena in Avenida Palmela.
12:00 - Gathering of the “Quintadas” at the bullring on bull-running with La Hermandad in the bull arena in Avenida de Palmera, featuring popular games and water activities.
19:00 - Monaco Party show with DJ and other surprises in the Plaza de la Constitución.
00:00 - Macrodisco SOS Animation in the Plaza de la Constitución until 05:00.
June 16
11:00 - Release of “Carretones” bull head carts for the children.
12:00 - Inauguration of the “Baret dels Bous”, bull-running with La Hermandad in the bull arena in Avenida de Palmera.
18:00 hours. GATHERING of the “Penyes Santjoaneres” and the Fogueres Commission in the Plaza de la Constitución to collect Quintà 2024 “A CABASSAES” and travel in procession accompanied by a band to the bull arena.
19:00 - Bull-running with La Paloma. Followed by the first evening of the farm competition with Benavent.
22:00 - Representation of the play ‘TRASH’ in which recycling, percussion and humour are mixed in the Plaza de la Constitución.
23:45 - Bull-running with Els Coves. Followed by the La Paloma and Els Coves farms challenge, with a bull and three cows from each farm.
00:30 - Discomóvil' Fogueres Musicón' at the bullring arena with DJ Javi Mengu until 03:00.
June 17
16: 00 - Trinquet Pilota Tournament of Xàbia organised by the Peñas’ EI PATROCINI’ and ‘D’ON NO HI HA NO SE’N POT TRAURE’. There will be a bar.
18: 00 - ‘Carretons and carretó embolat’ bull head carts and bicycles for the children.
19: 00 - Bull-running with Benavent. Followed by a livestock challenge with Hnos. Cali.
21: 45 - Bull-running with La Paloma.
22:00 - Habaneras songs from the Rondalla of the Grup de Danses Portitxol in the Plaza de Iglesia.
22:00 - Paella competition at the Avenida Palmela bullring arena, the Fogueres Commission will donate the rice, and the prize will be 100 euros!Afterwards, live music by GLOP ESPONJA group until 03:00.
June 18
19:00 - Bull-running with La Hermandad. Next, the third evening of the farm competition with Els Coves.
21:30 - Communal dinner in the Plaza de la Iglesia.
22:00 - “A JOURNEY THROUGH MUSIC”, a musical performance of all-time hits at the Plaza de la Iglesia.
23:45 - Bull-running with Benavent. Next, the release of six bulls from the Hnos. Cali farm.

The Cremà de la Foguera del Asilo Hermanos Cholbi will take place during this parade.
19:30 - Offering of flowers to Sant Joan in the Plaza de la Iglesia with the making of the tapestry by the ‘LA PATXORRA’ Peña.
21:30 - Serenade to the Queens and Presidents by the Tuna de Xàbia from the Plaza de la Iglesia.

June 22nd ‘75th Anniversary Day’
09:00 Despertà children from the Plaza de la Iglesia to the Plaza de la Constitución. Anyone who wants to participate can bring their own instrument to make noise and walk through the streets of the historic centre.

June 23: ‘Nit dels Focs’ (Night of Fire)
10:00 - Call to the party with rockets through the streets of the Historic Center by the group’ Fadrins, boratxos i fins’, accompanied by the BATUCAM.
11:30 - Offering of ‘raïm i bacores’ to Sant Joan. During the parade, the ‘INDULT DEL NINOT’ of the Central Foguera and the Children’s Foguera will take place.
19:30 - Parade of floats of the representative positions of the 75 years of Fogueres de Sant Joan.
23:30 - Traditional ‘NIT DELS FOCS DE SANT JOAN’, declared a festival of local tourist interest in the Valencian Community, organised by the Fogueres Commission and with the collaboration of the Quintà 25 anniversary ‘MOLTA FESTA I POC TRELLAT’. Next, Cremà de la Foguera de Trastos vells al Raval de Baix, organised by the club ‘El GERROT’.
Next, spectacular Correfocs’ Nit Màgica’ by Xarxa Teatre, from the Raval de Baix to the Plaza de la Constitución. Next, PachanGo! until 05:00.
June 24: ‘Saint Joan’s Day’
09:30 - Wake up with rockets through the streets of the Historic Center by the Quintà LA REBOLICA.
10:00 - Mass for Saint John in the Xàtiva square in the Frechinal sector. At the end of the mass, chocolate and sweets will be offered to all.
10:30 - Parade to gather the Court of Honour, ladies, presidents and queens.
12:30 - Solemn mass in honour of San Juan in the Parish Church of San Bartolomé with the participation of the ‘Grup Polifònic ARS NOVA’ and the orchestra of the Center Artístic Musical de Xabia. At the end of the mass, spectacular mascletà in the Plaza de la Constitución. Afterwards, wine of honour at the Arnauda’s riurau, offered by the Town Hall of Xàbia.
18:30 - Concentration of the Quintà 2024 ‘A CABASSAES’ in the Plaza de la Constitución.
19:00 - Quintà Parade 2024, music bands and brass bands from Plaza de la Constitución to Avenida del Plà.
19.30 - Carriage Parade. At the end, the parade of the entire Court of Honor, presidents, ladies and queens to the Placeta del Convent.
22:00 - Cremà de la Foguera infantil at the Placeta del Convent.
23:00 - Performance by the TITANIC Orchestra at the Plaza de la Constitución.
